RESUMO

Millions of Indonesian migrant workers have sought employment in Malaysia during the last three decades. Many of them are skilled and unskilled laborers, and their incorporation into the host society's labor market has the potential to improve their own quality of life while also contributing significantly to the country's economy. However, Indonesian migrant workers encounter numerous problems in their professional and personal lives. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the intercultural communicative competence (ICC) factors as one of the Indonesian migrant workers' strategies. This is qualitative exploratory research on the factors of ICC in the integration of Indonesian migrant workers into the Malaysian labor market. Focus groups were used to obtain data from 16 Indonesian migrant workers who had already successfully integrated into the Malaysian workforce as well as newcomers who were in the process of integrating into the local culture. In addition, interviews have been conducted with the 13 employers to complement the data from the migrant workers. The data was analyzed using rounds of deductive and inductive coding and analysis based on the five components of Byram's model. The findings suggest that practicing intercultural communication skills can help migrant employees overcome cultural difficulties in the Malaysian labor market. The Indonesian migrant workers and their employers also indicated that they have an advantage in cultural integration due to the cultural similarities. The paper discusses the implications of the findings in terms of ICC training offered to migrant workers themselves (culture and language) and to professionals who work with them, with the goal of facilitating and promoting Indonesian migrant workers' labor market integration.

RESUMO

Leptospirosis is neglected in many tropical developing countries, including Indonesia. Our research on this zoonotic disease aimed to investigate epidemiological features and spatial clustering of recent leptospirosis outbreaks in Pangandaran, West Java. The study analysed data on leptospirosis notifications between September 2022 and May 2023. Global Moran I and local indicator for spatial association (LISA) were applied. Comparative analysis was performed to characterise the identified hotspots of leptospirosis relative to its neighbourhoods. A total of 172 reported leptospirosis in 40 villages from 9 sub-districts in Pangandaran District were analysed. Of these, 132 cases (76.7%) were male. The median age was 49 years (interquartile range [IQR]: 34-59 years). Severe outcomes including renal failure, lung failure, and hepatic necrosis were reported in up to 5% of the cases. A total of 30 patients died, resulting in the case fatality rate (CFR) of 17.4%. Moran's I analysis showed significant spatial autocorrelation (I=0.293; p=0.002) and LISA results identified 7 High-High clusters (hotspots) in the Southwest, with the total population at risk at 26,184 people. The hotspots had more cases among older individuals (median age: 51, IQR: 36-61 years; p<0.001), more farmers (79%, p=0.001) and more evidence of the presence of rats (p=0.02). A comprehensive One Health intervention should be targeted towards these high-risk areas to control the transmission of leptospirosis. More empirical evidence is needed to understand the role of climate, animals and sociodemographic characteristics on the transmission of leptospirosis in the area studied.

RESUMO

Entrepreneurial ideation has gained robust prominence in the educational context, being a prominent variable in predicting the entrepreneurial intention of students. Thus, this systematic review seeks out and identifies the determinant factors of entrepreneurial ideation and understands the link between entrepreneurial ideation and intention. This paper adopted a systematic review of the literature in Scopus and Web of Science databases during 2016 and 2022, using preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA). Based on predefined inclusion criteria, a total of 14 articles published within the last decade were analyzed in detail. The findings of this review indicate that entrepreneurship ideation is determined by several factors, including entrepreneurship education, motivation, market, entrepreneurial imaginativeness, and information technology. The results also confirm that there is a link between entrepreneurial ideation and entrepreneurial intention among university students. This paper also highlights the trends in entrepreneurship ideation for university students' education and the primary role of entrepreneurial learning. The findings of this paper are to allocate avenues for future research on the theme of entrepreneurial ideations.

RESUMO

Behavioral problems in children are a global issue, and it has attracted scholars in both developed and developing countries. This study aims to examine religious beliefs and parenting styles in predicting children's behavioral problems, as well as investigate the mediating role of digital literacy to explain this relationship. This research adopted a quantitative approach based on the questionnaire provided to parents with different religious backgrounds who participated in the online survey. From a methodological perspective, we followed SEM-PLS to analyze and raise the comprehension of the phenomenon studied. The findings indicate that religious beliefs can affect authoritarian parenting styles and negatively influence digital literacy. However, religious beliefs failed in explaining children's negative behavior. This research also notes the role of parenting style in driving children's digital literacy and children's behavior. Meanwhile, digital literacy does not influence children's negative behavior. This study provides a sharpening of previous research on the theme of religious beliefs and parenting styles, as well as contributes to science related to the digital literacy and behavior of children.

RESUMO

Continuous managing the quality of education in the Covid-19 pandemic has been a unique challenge, and the government has acknowledged to shift from conventional to screen adopting technology. This research attempts to examine the relationship between technological understanding, game-based learning, and students' achievements. This work engaged a quantitative approach with SEM-PLS to gain a deeper understanding of the connectivity among variables. The participants were senior high school students from several places in East Java of Indonesia. The findings indicate that technological knowledge, educational competence, computer skills play an essential role in supporting technology-based learning. However, this study notes that game-based learning in distance learning cannot act as a mediator in enhancing the students' achievement. This study offers policy-makers the use of game-based learning in the learning process during synchronous learning using technology.

RESUMO

Since the increasing attention among scholars on entrepreneurship education, there is a lack of empirical evidence on how to prepare for entrepreneurial education at an early age. Therefore, this study examines the effect of the outdoor learning environment and entrepreneurial education on entrepreneurial self-efficacy in Indonesia's elementary school students. This study incorporated 320 elementary students in the five and six-year students as respondents in several elementary schools in Jakarta of Indonesia. The sample was gathered using convenience sampling by giving online questionnaires with five scales of measurement. The findings showed that the outdoor learning environment has closely related to entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial self-efficacy. Second, entrepreneurship education plays a significant role in mediating the relationship between the outdoor learning environment and students' self-efficacy. Our research provides insight to future researchers that primary education plays a significant role in the growth and development of self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intentions.

RESUMO

This study estimates agricultural land resource allocation to develop food-crop commodities in order to safeguard food security in Indonesia in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic. The recommended commodities to be developed in Indonesia are corn, soybean, mungbean, peanut, and rice that are produced with advanced technology and input-output coefficient. There are five introduced scenarios namely, basic scenario, I, II, III, and IV. There are problems related to resource allocation such as limited resources, the ways of using it, and time constraints. In order to maintain and improve the comparative advantage of agricultural production as well as to broaden the agricultural activities, agricultural development is directed to increase business efficiency, improvements in agricultural science, technology, and human resource quality. The utilization of agricultural land resources should be well-planned for better development.

RESUMO

The adoption of online-based learning and the internet has had both a positive impact on students. This study aims to understand how digital literacy, parental mediation, and self-control affects online risk during the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. This paper elaborated a quantitative method with SEM-PLS to raise the comprehension of the phenomenon studied. A questionnaire was voluntarily responded to approximately 300 elementary school students who engaged in online-based learning. The structural equation modeling estimation indicates that digital literacy, parental mediation, and self-control influences online risk. However, parental mediation failed in promoting students' self-control. These findings suggest that both digital literacy and parental mediation needs to be penetrated to reduce the impact of online risk in the teaching and learning process. This is the first step for schools and parents' alertness in assisting and considering the appropriate and safe media using technology.

RESUMO

Stimulating potential entrepreneurs is a global challenge and policymakers need to understand factors affecting students' entrepreneurial intention. The growing body of literature has focused on the impact of entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial intention, while this study aims to explore other predicted factors affecting students' entrepreneurial intention, such as family economic education, peer groups, and economic literacy. This study adopted a quantitative method using a survey approach to obtain comprehensive findings. The research involved online questionnaires to approximately 1000 students undergoing convenience sampling in a university in Indonesia as participants. The results indicated that both family economic education and peer groups positively correlate with economic literacy and students' entrepreneurial intention. These results confirmed a crucial role of economic literacy that government and educational institutions can consider to stimulate students' entrepreneurial intention. This study also contributes to the educational sector and governments to facilitate the creation of student-working groups in entrepreneurship as an attempt to encourage students' engagement.

RESUMO

The main purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between students' entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial mindset as well as understanding the mediating role of attitude and self-efficacy. The approach adopted in this study is a convenience random sampling method, which is widely used in entrepreneurship research. Participants were recruited from several universities in Malang of East Java in Indonesia undergoing an online survey and were calculated using structural equation modeling (SEM). The findings of this current study indicate that entrepreneurship education successfully influences entrepreneurial self-efficacy, entrepreneurial attitude, and the entrepreneurial mindset. On the other hand, entrepreneurial self-efficacy promotes entrepreneurial attitude instead of the entrepreneurial mindset. Furthermore, entrepreneurial attitude plays an essential role in mediating both entrepreneurship education and self-efficacy toward students' entrepreneurial mindset.
